After spending so long in lockdown we were desperate for a day out so remembering my childhood days at Alton Towers and knowing my kids are roller coaster fanatics we decided on there. The website said a limited number of tickets were being sold to allow for social distancing. I paid 100 for myself and two children and a parking ticket and we waited excitedly for our day out. On the day of arrival we were driving toward the carpark and saw a massive queue of people snaking for over a mile down the footpaths. We all just said 'oh my god'. At first I thought maybe the queue was for people who hadn't prebooked a ticket so I asked but no it was for temperature checks. We stood for an hour in this line just trying to get in. Our excitement waning as we wondered what the lines would be like when inside the park. After finally getting in we looked at ride line times - every single rollercoaster in the park that was open had an excess of 70 minutes wait time. The two I had been excited about the most Hex and Galactica were both closed. I felt so ripped off and demoralised but tried to keep in good spirits for the kids. We decided to go on the River Rapid ride as the wait was only 40 minutes! By the time that was done it was lunch time and the kids were hungry. Ive been out out of the country for 20 years so I may have been a bit naive when I walked upto a food stand with no pricing listed and ordered food. 3 hotdogs and 3 chips. When the guy charged me 32 pounds i nearly fainted. I couldn't believe what he said and had to ask him 3 times to repeat. I paid the money for 3 sausages in dry buns and 3 small trays of greasy chips. By now I was angry and upset. My kids were desperate to get some adrenaline so we went over to the X section and queued 1 hour for Oblivion. These rides are too much for me so I just waited in line with them and met them at the exit. They then wanted to go on the smiler - 2 hours waiting in line during which the ride broke down once. We couldn't exit the line as we were caged in. By the time all that was done it was 4 pm and we were all sore backs and tired feet from queueing. I wanted to go in the Dungeon but, stupidly did not realise this was an extra 7.50 per person to get in so after walking there we couldn't afford it. We carried on around the lake to Rita and another coaster both of which had lines in excess of 70 minutes. Wickerman which had been the ride I really wanted to go on had not had lines less that 80 minutes all day. We gave up and left vowing never to return. I felt so ripped off and so angry that a place that once was a great day out for families has become so money driven and such a rip off. There was very little actual social distancing going on because there were just too many people. I would advise anyone considering taking the kids here to save your money unless you want to throw it away lining up all day for 3 rides. Disgusted,

Took my son to Alton Towers, on wednesday 22nd july, we went early, for 10am opening but due to heavy traffic at gates, didnt get in till 10.45. The queues at the entrance gate were okay, but inside, management must have decided to run at full capacity (to make more money) but with covid, still around, rides were running, with limited numbers. This caused 100 mins plus wait times, we even waited 40mins mins for the sky ride, before giving up and walking. In total we went on 2 rides, all day due to wait times and rides being closed. So money spend on entrance and drinks, and lack of rides did not make it a enjoyable experience.

Absolutely terrible experience

Absolutely terrible experience. No WiFi, pool closes at 16.00 after being fobbed off with tickets for the day we arrived, check in at 15.00 so couldn’t use the pool. Table service only and waited for 48 minutes for a drink. No booking available for breakfast at all. Room had no water or phone connection. Next door room has small kids screaming until 1.00am… absolutely terrible experience would never come back!

Terrible visit

Terrible visit.
If you want to spend time in the que and only ride on 3 rides, make sure you come at around 10am.
Within 7 hours we have managed to get on 3 rides!!! :)
Complained to Alton Towers requesting either refund or allow us to come back... in reply - I've been advised that actually waiting time of 70+ minutes are actually lower than usually :) to be exact 'ride availability from this day was very good'.
If you are planning to visit that place, please expect nothing than disappointment.

If you want too catch covid go here

If I could give no stars I would. Absolutely shocking place no social distancing at all. everyone packed in together far too many in park to be covid safe. No wiping down of rides after each use. I witnessed a man cough into his hands and then place them on the handle bars how's that safe he wasn't even wearing a mask. Paid all that money and only got on 4 rides then we only got on them because we paid an extra 50 pounds on top of our already shocking entry fee. Queues were hours long rides were off. People being pushed past in the queue when they closed the ride there was no staff member to evacuate the queue safely everyone was pushing and shoving instead of social distancing. I really can't see how this can remain open safely.

Definitely recommend going!

Beautiful day out I got to go on every rollercoaster apart from wicker man I am 14 years old and I decided to go on a school day because we thought there would be less people and we were right. The only thing is that the food was quite expensive for what it was and there was no social distancing.

Avoid if you are a person of colour

Whilst the the theme park is full of rides for all ages, myself and my family were disappointed at the racist treatment received by staff members.
We were spoken to in a terrible way, treated differently and looked down on!!!
I wouldn’t recommend going if you are a person of colour. Staff were awful with the worst customer service. Disgusting.

I wish I could give it zero stars

I wish I could give it zero stars. We went in August and on our first ride, (Galactiva) it broke down and we were left dangling. Given a card to say that we could get a free days rides and a coffee. Told to go to the box office to redeem free day. As we decided that we would never go back as we live at other end of country, we thought we would ask for a fast pass for the day. Box Office unhelpful and rude and we were told that there were no fast passes. Went to two eating outlets and were refused the free coffees. Have complained online several times and got no where. Also the first day we were there, there was no filtering of people and it was quite busy. The second day was horrific, they started putting the "keep to the left" signs up and the place was packed. The car parks were absolutely chocker blocked. Crap place would never go back

Social Distance Review

I’m not one to leave a review but given the current situation with Covid19, I thought I would. We recently visited Alton Towers (household bubble of 7) & I was so impressed! There are clear signs for one way systems, signs everywhere with clear instructions about face masks (in shops, toilets and on rides), hand sanitisers were easily accessible all over the park & the staff were up-beat & friendly, all acknowledge us & spoke to my children. We visited on a weekday so wasn’t particularly busy, think the longest we queued was for 20mins. Social distancing was respected on all rides & I saw rides cleaned. The atmosphere as a whole from staff & guests was calm, polite & respectful.
Great experience.
